Band Review: The Bedroom Hour

The Bedroom Hour is an unsigned band from West London. Their album Hinterland was released about two weeks ago.

Listening to that along with 2013's Themes, my first thought was that Hinterland was a move into a more reflective and experimental music, but the foreshadowing was there. The haunting guitars run through all of the music, and there are really beautiful instrumental bits that are never overpowering.

Perhaps nothing predicted "Ww/Me", but that really means there is nothing like it. I don't even know how to describe it. There is a guitar thread running through it that reminds me of Billy Idol-era Steve Stevens, but there are other sounds that are very futuristic, and since the vocals are still kind of going in the haunting vein, maybe it's the percussion that grounds it.

The music is thoughtful and affecting, and that's what you carry away, but there is nonetheless some rock to it. That can especially be heard on "I See Suns" and "Tyrannosaur."

So, it's interesting to listen to. My personal favorites, "X Marks the Spot" and "Slow Motion Cinema" are on the older release, and yet I feel like there is a maturation and growing confidence going on with Hinterland that bodes well for The Bedroom Hour's future.
