There are three reasons why today is the perfect day to
review Turrentine Jones. First of all, I wanted to focus on British bands,
since with 4th of July weekend might throw off the schedule for some of my US
readers, and you can't really go wrong looking in Manchester. Also, they
recently performed at the Glastonbury Music Festival, so should have some buzz
going on. Finally, it's Blues Fest here at home, and this is the blues-iest of
the bands on my review list.
Although the band members appear to be relatively young,
there is an older feel, not just because it is blues, but even with the rather
retro keyboards used. That feeling is enhanced but the black and white videos
they have made, especially for Della May, with a video that is cleanly simple
and effective.
I will say that while "blues" seems like the
best classification, they do at times remind me of the Doors, whom I never
thought of as a blues band. That's okay, music doesn't fit into tidy little
boxes, and that is one of the best things about it.
You can find five songs easily via Amazon, iTunes, or
Spotify, but do check out the video for Della May, via either the main web site
or the Youtube channel regardless. Again, the video does work well, but also
there is a really cute baby. And the song is a pretty good introduction to the
band.
