Matt Steady is an independent musician from Leicester whose music draws from folk and
blues, with strong Celtic influences.
"Jack O'kent" sounds very Irish, but I am
most interested in the more blues-infused songs. It sounds like the blues, and
not country at all, and yet he still reminds me of Johnny Cash. There are at
times a depth and richness to the Steady's performance that brings Cash to
mind, without a strong musical resemblance.
(Steady does versions of "Ring of Fire" and
"Hurt", and they don't sound the same there.)
So that vocal quality is what struck me most, and
may be the best reason to listen further.
